The Town of Vernon would like to invite all to the 72nd annual July in the Sky Fireworks Display.  On Wednesday July 5 (rain date Thursday July 6) the sky will light up with an amazing fireworks show that is the envy of surrounding communities.  Thanks to our two main sponsors PRICE CHOPPER and SUPERIOR ENERGY this event would not be possible.

Following tradition, there will be a salute (loud boom) that will go off at 6:00pm to signify the fireworks will be shot off that evening.

There are two viewing sites, Henry Park and Downtown Rockville, to enjoy activities, great food and an opportunity to meet with your friends and neighbors.

At Henry Park, the gates will open at 6:00pm for an unforgettable experience in the Park.  The “Fun Zone” sponsored by Superior Energy will once again cover McCoy baseball field with a multitude of Giant Inflatable toys and games, Funco Mountain, Ninja Wipeout, Zorb Ball Racing, Laser Tag, Giant Slide, Obstacle Course, Bounce Houses and more….  Wrist bands will be sold for $10.  The Whale 102.9 will provide music in the Fun Zone, face painter Laurie Hessler will dazzle everyone with her talents, there will be food and ice cream available.  Closer to the launch site of the fireworks, the main viewing area that’s near Horowitz Pool, is where the entertainment and the food court is located.  UNITED BANK FOUNDATION is the sponsor of this area.  There will be a variety of food to choose from; wraps, pizza, fried dough, hot dogs, ice cream, lemonade, Little Marks will be the newest attraction.  The entertainment will be Eastview Drive Band, (7:00 to 9:15), at 7:30, Skylin Foster will be singing the National Anthem.  
A special thank you to McDonald’s and Lisa Walsh for their cookout prior to the event taking care of all the staff working that night.  Glow toys and balloons will be sold throughout the Park.  Parking will be provided by CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).
The Downtown events begin at 6 pm with Fried Dough,” Burgers and Dogs”, Hot Chili, Ice Cream, lemonade and specialty summer drinks.

 Giant inflatables, a climbing wall, games of skill and Big Jim’s Foam Machine are a hit with the entire family.  A $10 wrist band covers all.
At 7 pm, The Push, Pull, Pedal, Patriotic Parade sponsored by Mill Street Auto forms at the Ladd & Hall Parking Lot. Kids and families are invited to bring their bikes, skates, roller blades, strollers, etc. Come decorated or decorate there. Trophies will be awarded. This is also fun viewing for all.
Entertainment by the sounds Grand Avenue and The Second Annual Summer Fashion Show  bring Downtown to life during the entire evening.

The Vernon Parks and Recreation Department and the Rockville Community Alliance, along with the various Town of Vernon Departments, Fire Dept., Fire Marshall, Police Dept, Public Works, Building and Engineering, Ambulance Dept deserve credit for all their hard work!!

THINGS TO KNOW           

  • ARRIVE EARLY at Henry Park to take advantage of the parking ($5 per car) available and to select a preferred seating location, and bring blankets and chairs to assure comfortable seating for an evening of fun and entertainment!
  • There will be a $1.00 admission for all walk-ins at Henry Park
  • When parking you CANNOT LEAVE until the show is over which is approximately 10pm, Cars will be boxed in
  • NO PETS!!!! Pets will not be allowed into the Parks.
  • Henry Park will close at 4:00 for all activities
  • Tower Road will be closed at 10am, there will be no foot traffic or vehicles allowed.
  • NO BICYCLES, NO SKATEBOARDS allowed in the park.
  • NO FIREWORKS, NO SPARKLERS allowed.
  • NO ALCOHOLIC beverages allowed in the Park.
 
 
 
 
Limited Traffic Rules Beginning at 6:00 p.m
ROAD CLOSURES
Henry Park: Spruce Street, Tower Rd after 10 a.m., Henry Park portions of Thomas St., There will be no foot traffic or vehicles allowed on Tower Road beginning at 10:00 a.m. (residents who live on these streets should plan accordingly, but will be allowed vehicular access)
NO PARKING
Vernon Avenue, McLean Street, South Street 
ONE SIDE PARKING
High Street, Howard Street, Fox Hill Drive, Reed Street, Kevin Drive, Hale Street Extension, Earl Street and Crown Street.
Cars parked in Henry Park will exit onto South St going west. Cars parked on Fox Hill Dr., Reed St., Hale St. Extension, Crown St. and White St. will exit onto South
